Unit 1: Crafting Meaning Through Storytelling

Warm-Up:
10 Minutes of independent reading
Mini-Lesson:
Today we will learn about the classroom procedure of working independently while Ms. Brownell is working with a small-group.
Brain Break
Focus Lesson:
Today we will learn how to change a sentence or phrase from an informal writing style that contains personal pronouns, to a formal style of writing (third-person POV) that is appropriate for essay writing.
Class Work:
Remember: You can only start your final copy if you have a score of 2 or 3 on your drafts.

Must Do:
* Finish all drafts and turn them in.
* Begin the final copy, ONLY if your drafts are scored.

May Do:
* If you’re waiting for your drafts to be scored, then continue reading and annotating the short story Amigo Brothers.
Homework:
30 Minutes of independent reading. Make sure that your reading log is up-to-date.
OMG Fact:
Australia is the only continent without an active volcano.
When quoting someone who is not a household name (not well known) it's a good idea to include a quick explanation of who the person is.
