Today we will continue to work on the graphic organizer for our novel so that we can analyze how the interactions of the elements in the story impact the main character’s identity.
Class Work:
* Novel Graphic Organizer: first column
* Silent reading The Outsiders or The Giver.
* Be sure to add this book to your reading log.
* By the end of the week you should have read:
The Giver: Chapters 1-5
The Outsiders: Chapters 1-3
Homework:
Read for at least 30 minutes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Update your reading log.
OMG Fact:

Use your plan (Plot Map) to guide you as you rewrite the ending to the story Amigo Brothers.

* Include falling action events that lead to a solution
* End with a resolution that solves the conflict.
Homework:
Finish the Narrative Ending Rewrite for Amigo Brothers. This is due tomorrow!

Focus Lesson:
Today we will review how to identify the plot of a short story. Then we will closely examine the falling action events and the conclusion for the purpose of rewriting a story ending.
Class Work:
Together we will complete the PLOT MAP for Amigo Brothers.

Use the back of your PLOT MAP to plan the rewriting of the ending of Amigo Brothers. Use the falling action and resolution boxes to record your ideas for how you will rewrite the ending of the story. Remember, the conflict still needs to be resolved at the end of the story.

We will use our vocabulary foldable to help reinforce the learning of new words and concepts used in language arts.
Today’s words: Theme & Analyze
Focus Lesson:
Today we will closely examine the plot of Amigo Brothers  in order to analyze how the setting shapes the characters and how the theme is developed.
Class Work:
Annotate the short story Amigo Brothers, looking specifically at how dialogue and setting shape the theme.
Homework:
Finish you vocabulary foldable and the entries for the words theme and analyze.
OMG Fact:
Queue is the only word in the English Language that is still pronounced the same way when the last four letters are removed.
Study Sessions: Tuesdays and Thursdays before school (7:45 am) with a pass.

We will begin reading The Outsiders and The Giver next Monday (9/26).
