Week #13
Unit 2: Determining and Developing Central Ideas
Warm-Up:
* 10 Minutes of independent reading
* Vocabulary Notes: Position Statement
Mini-Lesson:
Today we will learn how to present claims and conclusions formed about a topic by participating in a text-based discussion on Abby Sunderland so that we can be able to articulate and defend positions, consider different points of view, and enlist and evaluate evidence.

Guiding Question: Can parents go too far in supporting their children’s dreams of extreme adventures?
Class Work:
We’ll know we have it when we’ve contributed several comments and or questions to the conversation. Our comments will:
  • Be focused on the major ideas of the topic in a way that improves coherence,
  • Add relevant descriptions, details, facts and examples to the conversation, and
  • Be presented with appropriate eye-contact, voice volume and pronunciation.
  • Be supported with evidence from the text.
Homework:
Rescue Services TBQs (Due Wednesday!)
OMG Fact:
A four-year-old asks an average of 437 questions a day.
Study Sessions:
Tuesdays and Thursdays before school (7:45 am with a pass from home)
Working Lunch:

Wednesdays (Bring a cold lunch or get a lunch pass from Ms. Brownell.)
