Unit 2: Determining and Developing Central Ideas
Warm-Up:
Together, we will define the following terms in order to improve our understanding of their meanings and increase our fluency using them in our everyday work in language arts class.

Focus Lesson:
Today we begin reading and annotating an excerpt from the autobiography A Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela. We will set a purpose for reading by examining how Nelson Mandela’s point of view, at different times in his life, affected his understanding freedom.

Class Novel (Week #3):
* Read assigned chapters (G=12-17 & O=7-9)
* Column #3 of your Novel Graphic Organizer
Homework:
Read and annotate the excerpt from the autobiography A Long Walk to Freedom. Due Wednesday.
