Unit 2: Determining and Developing Central Ideas
Warm-Up:
3 Minute Chit-Chat
Mini-Lesson:
Together, we will define the following terms in order to improve our understanding of their meanings and increase our fluency using them in our everyday work in language arts class.
This week’s vocabulary:
* Central Idea
* Objective Summary
(We will use Cornell Notes for adding these terms in our vocabulary foldable.)
Focus Lesson:
Today we begin reading and annotating the personal essay Names/Nombres by Julia Alvarez. We will set a purpose for reading by examining how the character sees herself and how that identity changes over the course of the text.
Class Work:
Class Novel:
* Read assigned chapters (G=6-11 & O=4-6)
* Column #2 of your Novel Graphic Organizer
Homework:
Read and annotate Names/Nombres pages 1 & 2. Due Tuesday!
OMG Fact:
Butter was the first food product allowed by law to have artificial coloring. It is completely white in its natural state.
Study Sessions:
Tuesdays and Thursdays before school (7:45 am with a pass from home)
Working Lunch:

Wednesdays (Bring a cold lunch or get a lunch pass from Ms. Brownell.)
